Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2025 – 18th to 24th November

Posted on:

This week, our practice is joining the global campaign for World Antimicrobial Awareness Week to help raise understanding about the importance of using antibiotics and other antimicrobial medicines responsibly.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) happens when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines. This makes infections harder to treat and increases the risk of disease spread, severe illness, and death.

💊 Key messages for this week:

  • Antibiotics do not treat viral infections such as colds, flu, or most sore throats.
  • Only take antibiotics when prescribed by a qualified healthcare professional.
  • Never share antibiotics or use leftover prescriptions.
  • Help prevent infections by practising good hygiene, keeping up to date with vaccinations, and following your healthcare provider’s advice.

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing daily posts on our Facebook page to test your knowledge and share tips on how to keep antibiotics working for everyone.
